IFEX is seeking
applications for the regular full-time position of Head of Campaigns and
Advocacy. IFEX is a global network of 95 member organisations
that defend and promote the right to freedom of expression and information (www.ifex.org). The Secretariat of
the IFEX network is based in Toronto and candidates must be eligible to work in

Job purpose: The Head of Campaigns and
Advocacy is responsible to build strong collaborative relationships with IFEX
members to improve freedom of expression. Priorities will be to develop and
oversee strategic directions for IFEX campaigns activities; lead and manage the
Campaigns and Advocacy team; and oversee the development and implementation of
the Campaigns programme.
Duties and
responsibilities of IFEX Head of Campaigns and Advocacy:
- Work
with the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director to develop and
implement IFEX’s Campaigns and Advocacy strategy - Lead,
motivate and manage the Campaigns and Advocacy staff team (and
contractors) including leading work planning processes, offering ongoing
support and conducting annual performance reviews - Oversee
all campaigns support to members - Identify
campaign opportunities for the network - Develop
strategic relationships for campaigns - Lead
the development of communication strategies into campaign activities - Write
campaigns materials and top-edit and proof content written by staff as
well as external contributors - Act
as spokesperson, for Campaigns and Advocacy activities - Develop
and manage the Campaigns and Advocacy budget in cooperation with the
Finance team and the Deputy Executive Director - Other
duties as required
Desirable
experience, skills and qualifications:
- 3+
years’ experience managing teams - 5+
years’ experience in campaigning in human rights/free expression field,
including: - Proven
knowledge of campaigning techniques, policies, strategies, scope, target
audience, structure and impact; - Understanding
of story-based strategy and demonstrated ability to write clear, concise
and compelling prose and ability to generate creative, well-designed web,
mobile and/or social media content; - Experience
with web-based campaign efforts; - Significant
experience in international project development and management - University
degree in related discipline or equivalent experience - Excellent
oral and written communication skills in English. French, Spanish and/or
Arabic an asset - Excellent
understanding of human rights, freedom of expression and democratic
development issues - Experience
working with NGOs, networks and/or coalitions; - Excellent
organisation and administrative skills with strong attention to detail - Diplomacy
and proven ability to work with people from various cultures and
backgrounds - Excellent
interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a variety of
contexts; - Knowledge
of a range of applications and software including social media platforms,
content management systems, Microsoft Office - Eligible
to work in Canada
