$83,454 – $104,317 (Annually)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the District Energy Manager, the Project Engineer’s
primary responsibility is to oversee the design, construction and
operations of district energy engineering work. Examples of key duties
for this position include:
• Responsible for managing internal and external staff to ensure
projects are delivered on time and on budget.
• Prepare or review designs for district energy projects, operations
and maintenance.
• Oversee various areas including operations and maintenance, new
connections, applications review and legal agreements execution.
• Review and coordinate district energy capital projects and expansion programs.
• Supervision of contractors, operating partners, and consultants
hired for various projects.
• Communicate, liaise and direct the work of all relevant stakeholders
including cross departmental staff for various projects.
• Prepare and administer tenders including recommendations to senior
staff where necessary.
• Maintain customer rates and initiate and manage customer reporting
and billing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

University Degree in Engineering or Applied Science (preferably
Mechanical) plus a minimum of 5 years experience in district energy,
heating, HVAC design engineering and/or civil engineering, including a
minimum of 2 years experience with large scale projects and/or with
multiple clients.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Strong knowledge and expertise in district energy construction,
operations, and maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability and skill in project management particularly
monitoring budgets and working with resource constraints.
• Ability to effectively communicate with City Council, the public and
City staff, both written and verbal, particularly the ability to
prepare written reports and give presentations.
• Ability to make recommendations on alternate designs, differing
material or methods, and choice of professionals for projects to
ensure efficient use of resources.
• Strong knowledge of engineering design and technical design criteria
of district energy structures.
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve all district energy matters
related to design, operations and maintenance.

LICENCES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of
Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of British Columbia (APEGBC).
• Valid Class 5 Drivers License for the Province of British Columbia

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EFFORT

Duties are mostly performed in an office environment with some site
visits required.
