The Web Development Manager in the
application development team is a highly-motivated, results driven person who
provides technical direction for the architecture and development of digital
media projects. This position works closely with the development team,

evelopment and integration managers, Product Team Leads and Product
Managers to define development standards and oversee architecture and
implementation of technical solutions to meet business requirements.
Responsibilities
- Architect
web applications using custom development and third party components to
fulfill business needs - Oversee
the solutions built by multiple teams of developers across many
products/projects simultaneously - Apply
significant knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve
products - Easily
recognize system deficiencies and implement effective architecture
solutions - Define
development standards, guidelines and best practices, and ensure they are
followed across all project and product development. - Balance
application sustainability with the immediate and diverse needs of
multiple business units - Collaborate
with vendors, analysts, developers, designers, and system owners in the
design, development and testing of applications - Mentor
developers and provide regular guidance, feedback and encouragement to
team members - Perform
under pressure and make decisions quickly when needed - Maintain
and improve development processes - Use
cutting edge technology that constantly “sharpens your saw” - Communicate
proactively and openly with a consistent, direct and positive approach - Participate
in a fun work environment with a strong team atmosphere - Occasional
evening and weekend work will be required to meet deadlines - Occasional
travel may be required - On-call
availability is required
Skills/Experience
- Post-secondary
education in the field of computer science and/or 6+ years of equivalent
work experience - At
least four years direct experience in team management or supervision - Extensive
experience in the architectural design and development, and management of
modern, high-performance, public-facing web applications - Demonstrated
proficiency with various forms of web development, including in-depth
knowledge of PHP, AJAX, Node.js, CSS3, HTML5, JavaScript, HTTP, REST, XML;
and a good understanding of XSLT, ASP.NET, C#, JSP, Java. - Strong
understanding of relational databases, including a working knowledge of
MySQL, PostgreSQL and MS SQL. - Deep
understanding of the WordPress core, theming, best practices, plugins and
APIs - Familiarity
with WordPress VIP standards and process - Expertise
in developing, debugging, and performance tuning WordPress sites, plugins
and themes. - Hands-on
technical experience with Linux, Apache, NGINX, IIS, SQL Server,
cloud computing (such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure), and web
performance implementation (caching, testing, security etc.) - Thorough
understanding of application development methodologies - Understanding
of content, blogging and social media publishing platforms - Understanding
of web standards and best practices including responsive design - Fundamental
knowledge of analytics instrumentation and SEO best practices - Superb
problem solving ability, with a knack for technical innovation - Exceptional
technical troubleshooting skills - Demonstrated
experience leading, motivating and succeeding with a high performing IT
team - Excellent
communication skills – both verbal and written - Strong
project management skills
