Position: Species at Risk Biologist

Location: Inuvik, Northwest Territories

The GRRB is a public co-management Board that is responsible for
wildlife, fish and forest management within the Gwich’in Settlement
Area (GSA). We are currently seeking a Species at Risk Biologist to
work in our office located in Inuvik, NT.

Main Responsibilities:
• Provide advice to the Board on species at risk topics
• Coordinate com

munity consultations on proposed species listings and
management plans
• Conduct technical reviews of species status reports & species assessments
• Attend meetings, give presentations and complete reports related to
species at risk
• Liaison for the Gwich’in Social and Cultural Institute and
participation in Traditional Knowledge Interviews
• Opportunity to facilitate and participate in research within the GSA

Qualifications:

Required (Must demonstrate these requirements are met in order to be
considered)
• Minimum of an undergraduate degree in biology or similar field
• Ability to perform technical reviews of reports, proposals, and
correspondence and prepare and present summaries to the Board
• Knowledge of species at risk in the Gwich’in Settlement Area
• Class 5 driver’s license and willing to travel independently to
remote communities

Assets (Not required but applicants that meet these requirements will
be given preference)
• Participant of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement
• Sound understanding of species at risk legislation and renewable
resource management
• Knowledge of the GSA and renewable resources in the area
• Experience working with Renewable Resource Councils in the GSA OR
with aboriginal communities
• Computer data analysis skills
