The Wilderness Committee is seeking an Office and Canvass Coordinator
for our Victoria Field Office. This is a full-time, permanent position
based on 37.5 hours/week.
The Wilderness
Committee is a grassroots, membership-based
organization that has a history of more than 30 years on the front
line of environmental battles in BC. We have helped win protection for
millions of hectares of wilderness, defended wild rivers from private
power projects, and worked tirelessly to stop tar sands exports, the
corresponding tanker traffic off the Pacific coast and new pipeline
projects.
The Office and Canvass Coordinator in Victoria is responsible for
coordinating our Victoria office administrative operations, as well as
developing, leading and strengthening our Victoria door-to-door
Canvass Team. The Office and Canvass Coordinator provides ongoing
support to our Vancouver Island Campaigner with outreach activities,
volunteer coordination, and coordinating our island product sales.
You will be directly responsible for:
• Ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of the Victoria office
• Building strong relationships with our supporters, members, donors,
volunteers and canvassers
• Overseeing office expenses, petty cash, floats and bank accounts
• Promotion, hiring and training of canvassers for our door-to-door canvass
team
• Producing and assigning canvass maps, monitoring canvass progress
and performing cash out and payroll duties
• Supporting campaign and outreach activities on Vancouver Island
• Promoting and coordinating the sale of Wilderness Committee product
from the Victoria office and at sales booths
• Updating the wholesale customer list regularly, promoting our
product wholesale program to local businesses, and following up with
clients to promote our product
You will have:
• University degree in social sciences, non-profit coordination or a
related field
• Minimum 2 years experience in non-profit office coordination
• A good understanding of non-profit fundraising strategies and
challenges, including previous door to door canvass experience
• At least 2 years experience supervising others with the ability to
problem solve and maintain positive team spirit
• Demonstrated human resources skills, including experience working
with mental health issues
• An excellent communicator and people person with strong relationship
building skills
• Well organized with an eye for details
• Skilled in administrative and financial tasks such as budgeting,
tracking, reporting and working with cash
• Strong computer skills including Windows and Microsoft Office
• Experience working with volunteers
• Experienced managing others with the ability to problem solve and
maintain positive team spirit
• Thorough geographical knowledge of Victoria
• Hold a current driver’s license

Salary: $31,307 per year.
Conditions of employment: This is a unionized position with BCGEU
Local 2001 and thus all pay and benefits are determined by the
Collective Agreement.
