Your challenge

Canadians know CBC/Radio-Canada for its programming and its presence, but
there’s much more happening behind the scenes. Whether your field of expertise
is finance, HR,  communications or IT,
you are the highly-skilled professional that makes our business run smoothly.

Are you a proactive, energetic, strategic minded Human
Resources professional?  The HR Consultant based in Edmonton or Calgary is
responsible for a full range of HR services for the Alberta region, including
bureaus in Calgary & Edmonton. This position requires someone with an
ability to work independently, provide HR leadership and stay connected with an
off-site HR Manager, all while balancing multiple locations and client
groups.  Fluency in English/French (bilingualism) is an asset.

In this role, your primary functions will be:

  • Providing advice and guidance to managers and
    employees on a range of Human Resources and Industrial Relations matters
  • Ensuring productive union-management relations by
    maintaining effective working relationships with union representatives
    locally. You will also be called upon to chair local joint committees
  • Provide strategic advice, support and training to
    managers on Performance management, succession planning and leave
    management
  • Contributing pro-actively and meaningfully to
    recruitment and selection activities within your client area, ensuring
    that sound hiring decisions are made
  • Providing advice and guidance to managers on
    often-complex compensation and benefits matters. Working closely with line
    management in managing STD/LTD cases
  • Counselling managers and employees on a variety
    of workplace issues
  • Participating in both HR and line management
    projects, local committees, including the Health and Safety Committee.
     
What you bring:
  • University degree and additional courses in Human
    Resources/Industrial Relations or an acceptable combination of education,
    training and experience (certification in HRM or CHRP designation an
    asset)
  • 5+ years of Human Resources with direct
    Industrial Relations experience in a fast-paced, unionized environment
  • Fluency in English and French is an asset.
  • Creative attitude and solid problem solving
    skills as they relate to advising and guiding operational managers
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple
    priorities, clients & employees in a variety of areas and locations.
    Strong interpersonal skills are a must
  • Sound knowledge of corporate and HR policies,
    collective agreements and related legislation
  • Strong judgment and the ability to make sound
    decisions quickly
  • Position requires objectivity, diplomacy, tact
    and sensitivity in all dealings
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a
    remote team; making effective decisions that support the needs of the
    business
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and
    written, with a variety of individuals at all levels.  Excellent
    listening, interpretation and telephone skills
  • Excellent knowledge of software suites (i.e.
    Microsoft Office, Google Enterprise, and HRIS systems)
  • Understanding of the mandate of the public
    broadcaster, TV, Radio & Digital production in a news & production
    environment is an asset
  • Ability to work long hours as required and to
    travel within Canada.
