COG is Canada’s oldest organic organization and only national organic
agricultural charity. We’re looking for a dynamic communicator,
organic champion, and team builder to help us achieve our bold new
vision for the organic movement.


Description:

This leadership position will work closely with COG’s Acting Executive
Director, Board of Directors, volunteers, project coordinators, and
summer students. It requires a dynamic set of skills to lead COG’s
charitable activities, communications, grant writing, fundraising,
project development, and office management.

Key responsibilities include:
• Working with the fundraising committee to develop and execute the
annual fundraising/membership strategy;
• Leading project development and grant writing;
• Assisting with external communications, including website,
e-newsletter, social media, member updates etc.;
• Management of COG’s administrative systems and website;
• Assisting with the production of The Canadian Organic Grower Magazine;
• Volunteer & COG Chapter coordination;
• Management of COG’s Practical Skills Handbooks;
• Assisting with event planning and organization of courses and
training programs;
• Assisting with project management and program delivery;
• Oversight of COG’s National Lending Library;
• Responding to telephone inquiries about the organic sector from the
general public;
• Assisting with special events and projects (ie. Organic Week
activities), including evaluation and follow-up;

Essential Qualifications:
• Experience and knowledge of organic agriculture
• Excellent communicator (written and verbal)
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Project development or management experience
• Experience working with databases or client management software
• Experience working with web software
• Experience working with volunteers

Asset Qualifications:
• Experience working with software such as Raiser’s Edge, Simply
Accounting, Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience working in non-profits and small organizations
• Programming skills and experience with HTML, PHP or CSS.
• Experience working with WordPress
• Management of project budgets
• Knowledge of basic accounting practices
• Experience managing others
• Knowledge of HR practices
• Volunteer coordination
• Event coordination
• Written and spoken fluency in French and English

You must be a reliable self-starter with a positive attitude and the
ability to take initiative. and pursue new opportunities for the
organization.

Terms:

Salary: $31,200.

Hours: The successful candidate will be expected to work 37.5hrs/wk
with 12 days paid vacation. Occasional evenings and weekends will be
required.

Start Date: Part-time training and orientation will take place from
November 17th to December 12th 2014, with the position switching to
full-time starting December 15th 2014. The contract will go to January
15th, 2016 with the possibility of the position becoming permanent.

This project is funded in part by Career Focus, an Agriculture and
Agri-FoodCanada program, and following applicant criteria must be met:
• be between the ages of 15 and 30;
• be unemployed or under-employed;
• have graduated in the last three calendar years from:
• an agriculture-related program in a university, college or CEGEP;
• or a provincial program focusing on biology, chemistry,
environmental science, geographical science, agricultural and
veterinary science or applied technology; and
• be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status.
