Information Technology is York’s central information technology services
organization, created on July 1st
through the merger of Computing and Network
Services (CNS) and Finance and Administration Information Technology Services
(ITS). UIT exists to provide a wide range of information technology services to
York’s faculty, staff and students in support of the University’s academic,
research and administrative goals.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A LIMITED TERM CONTRACT TO SEPTEMBER 30, 2016. Reporting
to the Technical Business Analyst/Developer, the Programmer provides
application development and support for the Student Information System (SIS)
including web applications and has shared responsibility for the development
and maintenance of a reliable and secure system for the University.
In addition to
his/her own projects, the Programmer assists more senior level staff in the
development of applications from conceptual phase through to implementation for
staff systems and business development.
Education: Relevant
University Degree, e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Software
Engineering, or, relevant College Diploma, e.g., Computer Science, Information
Technology, Software Engineering.
Experience: 1-2 years relevant and current experience with University Degree,
or 2-3 years relevant and current experience with College Diploma.
Skills: Excellent analytical skills; good written communications skills;
excellent oral communications skills to obtain accurate information; excellent
ability to program computers using a variety of languages with particular
emphasis on Perl; strong ability to work effectively as member of a team;
setting priorities and working effectively under pressure of high volume;
exercising tact and diplomacy; dealing calmly and effectively with
people; attending accurately to details; meeting short/long term
deadlines; ability to keep up to date with computer systems
development; good organizational skills; maintaining
confidentiality. SKILLS MATRIX: OPERATING SYSTEMS: Unix (ADVANCED);
Netware NDS; Windows (BASIC); Additional preferred: Mac OS (BASIC).
PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES: Perl or Python or Ruby; C or C++ or Java
(ADVANCED); SQL; Javascript (INTERMEDIATE); Additional preferred: PL/SQL
or equivalent (INTERMEDIATE). MARKUP LANGUAGES: HTML(ADVANCED);
Additional preferred: XML(ADVANCED). DEVEL
OPMENT TOOLS: Editor
or iDE; Oracle or other networked SQL DB (INTERMEDIATE). TECHNOLOGIES: Web
Applications Framework (e.g., Rails, Struts); Distributed Programming (e.g.,
Soap, Rest) (INTERMEDIATE).
DIRECTORY SERVICES:
LDAP; NDS or Active Directory (BASIC).
