Broadcast
Technologist

Reporting

Reports directly to
the Manager, Infrastructure

Duties

  1. Assist
    Media Service with setting up and troubleshooting file transcodes and the
    related issues.
  2. Troubleshoot
    and maintain various Broadcast servers, computer servers, and Non-linear
    editors used in Digital media workflows
  3. Troubleshoot
    and repair of traditional broadcast equipment such as, video master
    control switchers, routing switchers, and supporting infrastructure.
  4. Maintain
    equipment and repair service as required at both component and board level
    to maintain a high level of performance for all operations.
  5. Assist
    in the installation and commissioning of new facilities and/or addition or
    modification of existing facilities.
  6. Make
    timely field maintenance visits to transmitter locations.
  7. Keep
    Manager informed on all repairs and maintenance issues or other matters
    affecting operations.
  8. Personally
    be aware of and involved in any matters concerning the safety of personnel
    in the repair shop, related to equipment. Ensure safety issues are addressed
    with employees immediately.
  9. Update
    and maintain drawings and create new ones for assigned projects.
  10. Provide
    operators and clients with professional, courteous, and timely technical
    support.
  11. Perform
    routine and preventive maintenance of computer systems and networks.

Qualifications

  1. Completion
    of a 2 year Technician program or a 3 year Technologist diploma in
    Electronics with a specialization in audio-video or a related field, or
    equivalent knowledge of the field.
  2. Knowledge
    of computer equipment, especially servers and OS (Windows and Mac) is
    essential.
  3. Strong
    knowledge of system work flow.
  4. 2-4
    years of employment and/or equivalent knowledge base.
  5. Knowledge
    of ATSC standards, digital signals, file formats, conversion methods.
  6. Experience
    with tapeless media production workflows.
  7. Experience
    with broadcast transmitters and the mechanical equipment supporting them.
  8. Experience
    with installation and wiring of broadcast equipment.
  9. Ability
    to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
  10. Ability
    to apply logical troubleshooting skills.
  11. Service
    oriented.
  12. Attention
    to detail and ability to multi-task.
  13. Excellent
    analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
  14. Project
    management and time management skills.
  15. Team
    Player and ability to work independently.

  3. Will
    be required to be ON CALL on a rotating bases
