Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-operative seeks Candidates for a Part-Time
Project Engineer

This position of Project Engineer includes overall responsibility for
OREC’s input into the design and implementation of solar photovoltaic
systems or other renewable energy systems installed under contract for
OREC. The Project Engineer will report to OREC’s Operations Manager
and ultimately to the Board of Directors.

The candidate w

ill provide technical leadership internally by working
with the Board of Directors, Technical Advisory Team, and contracted
facility developers as required. The candidate will participate in:
• evaluation of potential sites for new installations;
• evaluation of candidate design and installation companies under contract;
• evaluation of proposed designs for implementing a system;
• monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of systems under contract;
and
• evaluation of proposed verification (by contractors) and validation
of installed systems.

Responsibilities:
• Lead engineer, responsible for the development and execution of new
solar PV systems.
• Participate in the design, execution and verification of installed
systems including reviewing how the commissioning process will take
place and be witness to it.
• Perform mathematical modeling on proposed new installations.
• Review designs and design change proposals in regard to systems
being installed.
• Lead or participate in teams to resolve issues as they arise.
• Active participation and membership in solar industry certification
working groups; maintain up-to-date knowledge of photovoltaic
technology. Interface with certification bodies. Attend and present at
seminars and conferences associated with relevant photovoltaic topics
as a representative of the solar certification and testing laboratory.

Requirements:
• Access to work space outside of OREC office.
• Access to phone and computer with relevant software which must
include Microsoft Office and RETScreen. Access to PVSyst is
preferable.
• Access to vehicle is preferable.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or relevant experience.
• Prior experience with solar PV system designs.
• A valid license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is
preferred but not obligatory.

Hours expected: 8 hours per week with some flexibility in response to
workload, starting September 29 for 6 months with possibility of
extension.

Remuneration: $45-60/hr, depending on experience
