ABOUT US

The Natural Step Canada is a dynamic non-profit organization with over
a decade of experience helping organizations and individuals
understand and make meaningful progress toward sustainability. Our
vision is a sustainable society—one in which individuals, communities,
businesses, and institutions thrive within nature’s limits. Our
mission is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable society. The
Natural Step Canada has a head office in Ottawa, and staff and
Associates based across the country.

We are part of a global network of non-profit organizations that has
been at the forefront of sustainable development internationally for
more than twenty years. The science-based framework that we employ
(the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development) has been used
successfully in hundreds of forward-thinking organizations around the
world.

PROGRAM AREA

Through our Sustainability Learning Programs, The Natural Step Canada
aims to deepen sustainability understanding, build commitment, and
catalyze action among target groups of Canadian individuals.

The Natural Step is a highly respected provider of learning programs
based both on a big-picture, science-based understanding of
sustainability and some great insights into how adults learn best. Our
courses are designed as hands-on, participatory experiences that allow
participants to learn quickly, apply concepts to real situations, and
transfer what they learn to their business, community, organization,
or emerging community project or social venture. We have helped more
than 25,000 people realize their potential as sustainability
practitioners and change agents through eLearning, a variety of
in-person courses, practical educational resources, and other events
and resources.

Within this program area, our Youth Sustainability Leadership (YSL)
programming is a growing suite of high-impact initiatives that build
the capacity of emerging young leaders to act strategically to address
the environmental, social, and economic challenges facing their
communities. Participants in our collaborative programming (including
the highly successful IMPACT! Sustainability Champions Training)
deepen their sustainability understanding, enhance their confidence as
leaders, and are empowered to develop or advance meaningful
sustainability projects and social enterprises.

Building on this success, we are now exploring new partnerships and
models to further scale our Sustainability Learning Programs and
collaborative Youth Sustainability Leadership programming.
