CBC Saint John is
looking for a reporter with strong journalistic skills in both news and current
affairs to join our morning show team. This individual will play a significant
role in providing content for the morning and afternoon shows and will work as
part of an integrated news/current affairs team.

The successful
candidate will be effective and efficient in the research, preparation,
gathering, writing, reporting and presentation of items for CBC Radio’s local,
regional and national newscasts as well as being able to contribute a broad
range of longer format current affairs items.  Work is governed by CBC
journalistic and programming policies and standards. Advice and guidance are
regularly available but there is latitude for initiative and independent
judgment.


Please note: This is a temporary position.

The successful
candidate for this position will have the following:

  • Three
    years of directly related experience that includes proven ability in the
    field and knowledge of the broadcasting industry
  • A
    university degree or equivalent journalistic experience
  • Demonstrated
    ability to research and gather information from a variety of sources
  • Demonstrated
    ability to provide live on-air reports, de-briefs, script-clips,
    interviews and analysis of complex events
  • Demonstrated
    excellence in writing for radio
  • Demonstrated
    proficiency in a variety of presentation forms from concise news items to
    longer form journalism and ability to prepare and write scripts, headlines
    and items for documentaries and current affairs programs
  • Strong
    news sense with an awareness of contemporary political, economic, cultural
    and social issues in New Brunswick
  • Strong
    technical and production skills, and an aptitude for computer editing and
    mixing
  • Curiosity
    and imagination
  • An
    engaging on-air presence, showing energy, enthusiasm and analytical skills
  • Able
    to present material with credibility and authority
  • Willingness
    to work cooperatively with producers and colleagues in story development
    and vetting
  • An
    ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines
  • The
    ability and willingness to read news as part of the morning show team
  • Ability
    and willingness to travel plus a valid driver’s license.


This is an English language position.  The ability to speak, read and
write in French would be an asset.
