Educator/Naturalist

Location: Midland, Ontario
To conduct daily educational, recreational, and special interpretive
programs for visitors to the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre.
Casual contract position (up to a maximum of 35 hrs/wk) from
mid-September to end of October, with the possibility of extension.
Commensuration: $12.00-$12.50/hr.

Responsibilities
• Reports to the Education Coordinator and Executive Director
• Conduct experiential curricular-based environmental educational
programs to a variety of age groups
• Conduct interpretive presentations to visiting public
• Adapt programs to meet expectations of the audience (students,
families, general public, tourists)
• Represent Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre and uphold our mission statement
and objectives at all times
• Work with a diverse group of volunteers and staff in a fast paced environment
• Guide canoeing and kayaking tours; training provided
• Present, handle, and care for captive reptiles and amphibians;
training provided
• Maintain work area and repair program equipment in coordination with
the Education Coordinator and Operations Manager
• Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed
• Assist in any other duties as required

• Enjoy working in an outdoor setting
• Possess an understanding of ecological concepts
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with an understanding of group dynamics
• Demonstrated planning, organizational, time management, and customer
service skills
• Established nature interpretation skills
• Effective oral communication skills
• Confident computer skills (intermediate)
• Skilled team player
Requirements
• Enrolled in or have completed post secondary education in Biology,
Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Natural Resource
Management, Outdoor Recreation, Teaching, or a related field
• Work some evenings and most weekends
• Bilingual (French and English) is an asset
• Emergency First-aid/CPR certification
• Police Criminal Records Check
• Valid Ontario Drivers license
