Environmental Educator – Pilot Program Contract

Stanley Park Ecology Society promotes awareness of and respect for the
natural world and plays a leadership role in the stewardship of
Stanley Park through collaborative initiatives in education, research
and conservation. Our programs range from environmental education to
hands-on conservation initiatives such as wildlife monitoring and
removing invasive plant species from the Park.
This September, SPES is launching a new pilot program for families
with children aged 3-5 years old and is looking for a contract
Environmental Educator to lead the programs.
Duckling Discovery: Stanley Park Nature Learning for Preschoolers.
Leaving from the Stanley Park Nature House on Lost Lagoon,
participants will spend time with Mother Nature in an outdoor learning
program that introduces preschool aged children to Stanley Park’s
flora and fauna. This program offers a place for children, parents and
caretakers to play, learn and connect with the great outdoors and each
other.
The pilot runs Tuesdays and Thursdays September 16, 18, 23, & 25 from
9:30 – 10:30 a.m. and is based out of the Stanley Park Nature House at
Lost Lagoon.
The possibility of future sessions exists and depends on success of
initial pilot.
Duties:
• Provide input into the development of four – 1hr nature based
exploration sessions for children aged 3-5 years old and their
parents.
• Lead the sessions, with the assistance of volunteer(s) including
registering drop-in participants and handling payment.
• Ensure that all programs and activities operate in accordance with
Risk Management and Safety Standards.
• Provide follow up feedback and suggestions for program changes or
development.
The successful candidate will have:
• Sound knowledge of local ecology and environmental issues.
• Previous experience in environmental education and program development.
• Previous experience working with young children, preferably in an
outdoor setting. Early Childhood Educator training an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors (rain or shine).
Compensation: $60/Session (includes preparation time)
