Akagera Management Company (AMC) seeks suitable
candidates to fill the positions listed below.
AMC, a partnership between the Rwanda Development
Board and African Parks, a not-for profit conservation organization, is
responsible for the total management of Akagera National Park in terms of a 20
year joint management agreement. AMC seek hardworking candidates, with a good
work ethic, highly organized, self-motivated and enthusiastic to join our
dynamic team.

All candidates must meet the following criteria, as
well as the criteria listed below the position being applied for:
  • Rwandan
    nationals         
  • Fluent in Kinyarwanda and English, French is
    an advantage
  • Be prepared to live and work in a rural
    setting
  • Be prepared to work long and irregular hours
    due to the nature of the work environment

will be invited to participate in a panel interview selection process. The
successful candidates will begin immediately.
1. FREELANCE
TOURISM GUIDES
Description:
Successful candidates will be expected to create a
cooperative of freelance guides and have an MOU with the park management.
Freelance guides are not contracted staff, they are self-employed. As a
freelance guide, your success is dependent on your own dedication and hard
work. Training will be provided by the park and knowledge will be tested to
ensure a standard is achieved. As a freelance guide you will have flexible
working hours. Freelance guides will be paid per trip they take in the park.
Criteria:
  • Be between the age of 18 – 40
  • Have completed education to a minimum level of
    Senior 4
  • Have some knowledge of tourism and wildlife
    and conservation
  • Must live near to Akagera National Park or be
    prepared to relocated at own cost
  • Be dependable, respectful, flexible
2. CAFE
ATTENDANT
Description:
This person will be responsible for day to day
operation of the café with a wide variety of duties. The café is
counter-service and requires an Individual who is able to work independently,
efficient, fast-learning, have a wide range of skills and able to multi-task.
Duties include making drinks and simple food preparation, cleaning, cash
collection and reporting. Exceptional standard of hygiene and cleanliness is
essential.
 Criteria:
  • Experience in a similar job is essential
  • Confident, ability to interact with visitors
  • Hardworking and able to work unsupervised
3. MECHANIC
Description:
Responsible for all garage activities and
management, repair and preventative maintenance of vehicles and motorized
equipment to ensure working order. Tra Training of assistant mechanic, keeping
accurate service records and ensuring stock of spare parts is maintained.
Criteria:
  • Qualification in vehicle and truck mechanic or
    more than 5 years’ experience
  • Good organization and work planning
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Vehicle driving license
Added Advantage
  • Truck driving license
  • Knowledge in mechanics of earth machinery,
    tractors, motorbikes, boat engines
  • Knowledge in other skills useful in running a
    garage (e.g. automobile electricity, welding)
4. COMMUNITY
LIAISON OFFICER
Description:
A genuine interest in people, passionate about
nature conservation. Duties Include environmental education in local schools
and wildlife clubs, monitoring and reporting on the Implementation of revenue
sharing projects, keeping a record of all human-wild& conflicts,
encouraging engagement with the community and promoting the park, organizing
and participating in village and JAF meetings on Sector level.
Criteria:
  • Completed secondary school education,
    preferably In a science option at advanced secondary level. An additional
    diploma (1. or 2 years maximum) in development/business/conservation or
    tourism will be an advantage
  • Previous work experience in community
    development, or enterprise management, and/or teaching science at primary
    or secondary school level Is required
  • Motorbike license
  • Self-motivated, hardworking and ability to
    work unsupervised
  • Good report writing skills
  • Demonstrated skills In facilitating community
    meetings
5. GIS
OPERATOR
Description:
The successful candidate will be required to file
all the research and monitoring data of the park, facilitate field rangers with
the GPS basic skills, collect Ranger Based Monitoring data from all the posts,
ensure proper filtration and accuracy of the field data collected from the
rangers. Download tracks from field GPS to ArcGIS. Produce patrol coverage maps
for park reporting. Update ArcGIS shape files and mapping of any park and
surrounding features when required.
Criteria:
  • 20-30 years old
  • Completed education to minimum degree level in
    the fields of Geography, Environmental Science, or Biology
  • Should have an excellent knowledge in GIS with
    at least 2 years’ experience working in GIS
  • Motorbike license is an advantage
6. ASSISTANT
FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
Description:
The role of the Assistant Financial Controller Is
to help the Financial Controller ensure smooth implementation of financial and
administrative systems and procedures of the Company. Duties include
maintaining existing financial systems including petty cash, expenses, income
and expenditure records and process all payments. Financial and administrative
reporting, assistance for the preparation of annual accounts, and help in
preliminary audit work, prepare payroll of staff, human resources and day to
day office management.
Criteria:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance,
    Management or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience In an
    administrative and support role, including setting up and managing
    administrative systems and a strong financial background
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, flexible and
    able to
    multi-task

    Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Driving license is an advantage
  • Previous working experience in an
    administrative and support role, including experience of setting up and
    managing administrative systems
