The goal of the
project is to combat child labour in various sectors, including agriculture,
fishing and fisheries/aquaculture and domestic service, through an innovative,
effective, and integrated approach that involves increasing children’s access
to quality education, promoting sustainable livelihoods for their households,
increasing beneficiaries’ access to national social protection programmes that
help households reduce dependence on children working to meet basic needs, and
increasing youth’s access to decent work.
The Education
Specialist is responsible for providing leadership in developing the technical
aspects of this United States Department of Labour (USDOL) project related to
education interventions, in collaboration with the Project Director, such as
student assessment, teacher’s training, educational materials development, education
management, and educational monitoring and information system. S/he will be
responsible for leading the technical implementation of formal, non-formal, and
other educational programmes.

Some
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate the
development of transitional, formal and vocational education curriculum based
on identified target populations.
• Build capacity of
provincial education staff and community volunteers in education management.
• Work with the
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to adapt child labour and education curriculum
and materials.
• Facilitate
capacity building for educators (from needs assessment/baseline to training
design, conduct of training and impact assessment).
• Participate in the
development of monitoring and evaluation systems of the applied educational
curriculum.
REQUIRED SKILLS
INCLUDE:
• Bachelor’s degree
in education, social science or other relevant field.
• Minimum 3 years of
experience in a leadership position responsible for developing education
interventions and the technical aspects related to the proposed strategy,
including student assessment, teacher training, educational
materials/curriculum development, educational management, and educational
monitoring and information systems.
• Experience in
basic and secondary education projects.
• Understanding of
child labour issues, including special educational needs of children removed
from child labour when they enter/return to school.
• Experience working
with vulnerable children and their families, preferably in Rwanda.
• Extensive travel
required; must be willing to travel and work for periods of time to field
project sites, including rural sites with few amenities.
