The New Times, Rwanda´s leading daily newspaper, is looking for an energetic,
vibrant and dynamic person to serve as its cartoonist.
Qualities
• Ability to work independently through developing ideas and drawing cartoons
in consultation with the line editor.
• Drawing cartoons which amuse readers and illustrating articles as may be
required. The drawings must be on current issues.
• Create a pool of humorous cartoons which may be revised from time to time
depending on the evolution of the subject matter.
• Ability to use cartoons and illustrations to creatively communicate the
intended message. He or she must find a humorous way to express even the most
serious of issues.
Qualifications
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
• Basic skills and knowledge in journalism.
• A rich understanding of the cultural context of the Rwandan society.
• Have interest in varied issues of public concern.
• Ability to respect deadlines and to work under pressure with minimum
supervision.
• Prior experience in the same field, particularly newspaper cartoons, is an
added advantage.
