GSMA – Our role
The GSMA represents the interests of the worldwide
mobile operator community. Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800
of the world’s mobile operators as its members, as well as linking them with
more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem (including; handset
makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media
and entertainment organizations). The GSMA is focused on innovating, incubating
and creating new opportunities for its membership, all with the end goal of
driving the growth of the mobile communications sector and the role of
operators within it. In addition, we work with Governments, regulators and
NGO’s to develop the social and economic value of mobile on a country, region
and global basis. Finally we operate and produce the world leading Mobile World
Congress and its sister events. The GSMA is governed by a 25 member board,

 GSMA – The
Role
Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer and within
a highly focused and effective team, your role will be to ensure that the
Strategy Office is delivering according to annual strategic agenda, and meeting
internal and external stakeholder expectations. You will also build, manage and
ensure effective delivery from Strategic Taskforces to address particular
industry or organizational strategic issues or opportunities. Having a strong
strategy background and being an effective programme manager and relationship
builder, your key activities will be to: Build and manage the Strategy Office
team plan, ensuring that the top strategic priorities of the industry and
organisation are being addressed effectively Manage requests to the Strategy
Office from the GSMA and external stakeholders, building required activities in
to the plan and managing stakeholder expectations Identify where Strategy
Office activities are related to activities or functions within in the GSMA and
ensure that there is alignment and input from the identified teams  Lead
one or more Strategic Initiatives, which could include delegates from across
the GSMA organisation. Duties are to identify the taskforce strategic
objectives, obtain inputs from both external and internal subject matter experts
and ensure delivery of the strategic requirements. Ensure that Strategy Office
deliverables are delivered to sufficient quality; ensure that actions are
followed up and reported Raise risks and issues to the CSO and suggest plans
for mitigation Ensure that the activities of the Strategy Office are aligned
and structured in an optimal way to deliver best results Manage and report
against the Strategy Office budget
Criteria
Criteria for Selection This is a senior role and
requires an individual with a strategic mind, excellent industry knowledge and
the ability to structure plans of activity and ensure effective delivery. In
particular:
Strategic – a strategic understanding of the
telecoms industry and areas of opportunity or concern for mobile operators, and
an understanding of how different areas are linked.
Business oriented – an innovative mind and able to
translate ideas in to viable business opportunities
Structured and efficient – able to develop
well-structured strategic plans of activity from high-level ideas and ensure
effective execution.
Relationship focused – a relationship builder, able
to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and obtain consensus around
strategic approach and plans of activity.
Communications – able to effectively communicate
the areas of opportunity or concern, sometimes around sensitive areas such as
project performance or organisational review.
Collaborative – able to effectively work with
stakeholders across the GSMA to produce the best outcomes.
International – experience in working in an
international environment and with geographically dispersed teams. Willingness
to travel on an international basis.
