Position Title: Head of Communications
Program: Southern Africa Trade Hub
Location: Gaborone, Botswana

General Summary:
AECOM currently manages the USAID-funded Southern Africa Trade and Competitiveness Program, based in Gaborone, Botswana. The program’s overarching goals are to increase international competitiveness, intra-regional trade, and food security in the SADC region. The program delivers targeted technical assistance to the government, private sector, and civil society organizations to realize advantages of greater regional and global trade linkages and export-oriented business development.

Position Overview:
The Head of Communications will oversee all aspects of SATH communications strategy and implementation. Provide strategic oversight of all communication and public relations for SATH; manage entire communications program per contract and workplan tasks, including website management, writing reports, creating project materials, and liaising with media.

Responsibilities:
• Serve as the key communications point of contact and resource,
• Write, edit and distribute a monthly newsletter, Hub Happenings; revise content as needed to maximize impact
• Oversee the SATH website www.satradehub.org; and recommend options to improve usage and/or respond to results;
• Edit, format and distribute project documents and reports; maintain complete project deliverables and report files
• Represent the project’s communications interests at meetings with stakeholders, including government partners, USAID, and other agencies
• Produce media materials to include short films, radio clips, video clips, blogs, etc. and disseminate widely
• Ensure all project publications conform to USAID and SATH branding requirements
• Supervise communications support staff as needed.

Qualifications:
• 5 – 7 years of relevant work experience providing similar support in an international office environment
• Graduate degree in journalism, communications, publishing or similar area
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe applications, and experience with Desktop Publishing (InDesign, Pagemaker, Photoshop, etc.), HTML knowledge (Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Joomla, etc), database development, and design elements
• Understanding of USAID project communication strategy and approach, familiarity with USAID branding and style guide required
• Excellent written and communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
• Experience with and a good understanding of issues in the SADC region and those related to SATH objectives
• Fluent in spoken and written English. French and/or Portuguese an advantage.
