The core business of GRL is to plant trees for industrial wood production and sales of carbon credits, and currently the company has planted more than 14,000ha in the southern highlands of Tanzania. The group is also operating plantations in Lindi, and in Uganda and northern Mozambique.
Description:
Reporting to Mapping and Inventory Manager, is expected Advise the Mapping and Inventory Manager on the process and the procedures of conducting Forest Resources Assessments (FRA) with focus on traditional forest inventory, provide technical backup on the preparation of FRA annual plans and budgets and supervise the implementation of forest inventory programs and help in using the latest technology in forest inventory and harvest projections.
Essential Functions:
„h To design and test new Forest Resources Assessment models including those related to Carbon and CDM.
„h To develop field guidelines for Forest Resources Assessment.
„h To train staff on planning and implementation of forest resources programs including data analysis, interpretation and reporting.
„h Develop and give support on harvest projections and inventory assessment using Micro Forest.
„h To design and ensure adherence to occupational safety and health measures.
„h Plan, establish and monitor Permanent Sample Plots (PSP) both for research and carbon assessment.
„h To carry out any other FRA assignments as required by the unit manager.
„h Carrying out research on land use issues including baseline information and carbon offset modelling for the Project Design Document (PDD) for carbon offset projects regarding land use and land eligibility in the project areas.
Requirements:
„h Must have at least a Master Degree in Forest Resources Assessment or related field
„h 3 ¡V 5 years of working experience on applied research or forest inventories.
„h Must have practical experience of GIS application in Forestry.
„h Knowledge and/or working with Micro Forest are an added advantage.
„h Must have intermediate Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel skills.
„h Strong interpersonal and team building skills; written and oral communication skills.
