What are the goals of the programme?
This master’s course is designed with an interdisciplinary and integrative approach that goes beyond addressing problems related to engineering, economic and environmental policy issues. The economic, ecological and regulatory policy dimensions of the water sector (e.g., quality control, distribution, treatment
and recycling, national, cross-border and sustainable use, legal aspects etc.) are reflected in the curriculum along with the socio-cultural aspects. In content and methodology, this programme for young experts in water related fields provides a practice and need-oriented opportunity for continued training that places special emphasis on the development of intercultural communication skills. By working in small mixed groups, students are trained in intercultural communication and management skills, so that as graduates they will be in a position to cooperate on international projects in areas such as development cooperation or scientific-technological cooperation. English is the language of instruction. Upon successful completion of the course graduates will be awarded a master’s degree of each university.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to participants from the following countries: Germany, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.
Target group
The target group of this master programme are young professionals active in water-related fields, with some practical work experience (2 years if possible).
What is funded?
German scholarship holders :
The DAAD awards a monthly scholarship of € 800 for the phases abroad (1st and 3rd semester). During the second semester in Germany no scholarship can be awarded! The scholarship also includes health insurance and insurance for accident and personal liability for the whole study period (including the phase in Germany). Furthermore, the DAAD pays a subsidy towards the travel expenses.
Arab scholarship holders:
The DAAD awards a monthly scholarship of € 600 for the first semester (including a subsidy towards accommodation in Amman) and € 750 for the second and third semesters. The scholarship also includes health insurance and insurance for accident and personal liability for the whole study period (including the phase in Germany). Furthermore, the DAAD pays a subsidy towards the travel expenses.
Application

· hand-signed and complete CV (please use the europass specimen form at http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/) with exact account of the educational and professional development
· hand-signed letter of motivation (with reference to current occupation) with precise description of the academic/professional and personal reasons for wishing to participate in this programme;
· academic letter/s of recommendation from your university; the letter must have a signature and office stamp and must be of recent date;
· professional letter/s of recommendation from your employer; the letter must have a signature and office stamp and must be of recent date;
· confirmation of employment from the employer in your home country, and if possible, a guarantee of re-employment upon returning home;
· proof of language abilities: English – TOEFL or IELTS (Note: Institutional TOEFL will not be accepted); German or Arabic – if available (costs will not be covered by the DAAD);
· certified copies of awarded academic degrees
· certified copies of academic transcripts
· certified copy of School Leaving Certificate
The application has to be in English. Please avoid using staples, sheet holders and plastic folders in your application.
Applications that are not complete will be excluded from the selection procedure.
Selection
A selection committee consisting of professors of the course and representatives of the DAAD will nominate the candidates for a scholarship.
Aside from the study achievements and the academic quality of the applicant, the most important selection criterion will be a convincing presentation of the professional and personal motivation for participating in this programme, including the expected benefits after returning to the home country and/or the expected contribution towards German-Arab cooperation.
The bachelor’s degree should not be more than 6 years old. Arab candidates who have already been in Germany for more than 12 months at the time they apply cannot be considered for a scholarship.
Deadline for applications
The complete application must be submitted by the 31st of March 2012 at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences.
