Positions available and subjects
The Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) is accepting applications for 32 PhD positions in the Faculty of Sciences. Spring and autumn admission sessions will be held for the 2012/2013 academic year as follows:
• 3 positions in Molecular Biophysics
• 4 positions in Chemistry
• 7 positions in Physics
• 4 positions in Condensed Matter Physics, 1 of which In partnership with the Istituto Nanoscienze of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR)
• 7 positions in Mathematics
• 3 positions in Mathematics for Finance
• 4 positions in Neurobiology
Admission requirements
The following are application requirements:
• MS, MSc or equivalent. Candidates may apply prior to completing their MS/MSc, but must present their diploma by 31 October 2012
• born after 31 October 1982
• knowledge of English or Italian adequate to consent academic work and research
• never to have applied or not to have applied more than once for a PhD at the SNS
• not to have been object of any of the sanctions or legal actions indicated at point a.1 in Attachment A
• two of the 4 positions in Condensed Matter Physics, earmarked for Early Stage Researchers, are subject to further requirements. Candidates for these positions are advised to refer to Call – Further Information, points 1 and 2.
Application deadline and procedures
Application for admission to the competition must arrive at the SNS:
• by Thursday 29 March 2012 for the spring session
• by Thursday 13 September 2012 for the autumn session
The application must be made exclusively in Italian or English, solely using the format provided in the Application Form (Attachment D), accompanied by all required attachments listed at point a.3 in Attachment A, and signed by the candidate. Completed Applications and Attachments must be sent exclusively by e-mail in .pdf format to concorso.ammissione@sns.it
