The SAXO Institute, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen, Denmark invites applications for one or two positions as Assistant Professor in Ethnology. The position(s) is/are available from August 1, 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Job content
An assistant professorship is a three-year, fixed-term academic position involving research and teaching. The successful applicant must have research qualifications on at least Ph.D. level. The person appointed to the post will be obliged to complete a course in university teaching devised especially for assistant professors, and is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration.
At the end of the three-year period, provided the appropriate funding is secured, a post as associate professor will be advertised for which the assistant professor may apply.
Qualification requirements
The temporary 3-year position is open for applicants qualified to perform research related to cultural history, cultural theory and / or cultural analysis. Applicants must document research in one or more of the following areas: museology and “use of history”, climate / sustainability, Europe and globalization. Applicants with an international dimension in their research will be preferred.

Further emphasis will be placed on applicants´ ability to demonstrate originality as well as theoretical and methodological reflexivity. Furthermore, it is desirable that applicants have participated in or organized research collaboration, preferably as international cooperation.
Candidates will be responsible for course planning and teaching at bachelor and master level classes, including cultural theory; cultural analysis; European cultural history; museology; archive studies and/or fieldwork. Candidates are also expected to teach in English in the master program, Master of Applied Cultural Analysis (in collaboration with Lund University).
Successful candidates must participate in various activities on a daily basis in the Ethnology Section and at the SAXO Institute generally.
