Associate professorship in Cognition and Communication at University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The Department of Media, Cognition and Communication, Faculty of Humanities, Copenhagen University invites applications for an associate professorship in Cognition and Communication. The position is open from 1 February 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is connected with the English-language Master´s programme in Cognition & Communication.

Job description
Applicants must present documentation on research qualifications at international level within one or more of the subjects comprised by the programme such as theories in cognitive science with relevance for the study of communication and social interaction, and media theories relevant for the analysis of human interaction and media usage.

The associate professor will be responsible for the academic coordination of the Master´s programme including the relevant administrative duties both in relation to the department´s head of studies and administration and to the programme administration of the faculty. Applicants must present documentation of experience of such duties.

Applicants must be able to teach, prepare and participate in examinations on several modules of the Master´s programme, and to take the role of academic counsellor for students as well as PhD scholars within the subject area. Applicants must state in which programme modules they are capable of teaching. Applicants are also asked to state in which modules of the department´s other BA and Master´s programmes, including at Open University, they are capable of teaching. Applicants must be able to teach in English, and documentation for this must be enclosed with the application, (appendix 5).

Applicants are expected to take active part in cooperation and communication with external partners and the public. Appointment as associate professor also includes research management, educational councelling and supervision of assistant professors as well as academic assessment.

Qualification requirements
The associated professor is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration and also manage research projects, provide pedagogic supervision, supervise assistant professors and sit on academic assessment panels.

When appointing a candidate to the post as associate professor, we stress that the applicant must have research and teaching qualifications corresponding to what can be achieved as part of a successful employment as an assistant professor.

Emphasis will be placed on the following academic and personal qualifications:
• Research qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to the period of active research and the degree of originality and production
• Scientific significance, academic breadth and depth, rigour, thoroughness and accuracy as well as academic relevance in relation to the advertisement for the position
• Teaching qualifications
• Administrative qualifications
• Research management
• Participation in networks – national and international

Appendix 6: Publications. Applicants may choose a maximum of five publications for assessment, of which at least three of the selected works must have been published within the five years immediately preceding the deadline for applications. Publication dates must be clearly marked on the publication list. The publications selected must be uploaded as attachments and named from 1-5.

Only material in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, English, German and French can be expected to be assessed.

All material will be shredded at the end of the appointment procedure.

Appointment procedure
After the application deadline, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to evaluate applicants specifically in relation to the advertised position. The applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each candidate will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before the appointment is finalised. Salary and conditions of employment
The post will be filled according to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
