Lund

University

Job
assignments

The
position means developing architecture-specific theoretical and methodological
investigations into a dissertation.
The work is expected to contribute to the strengthening of research within the
core fields of architectural research and knowledge. The research topic is open
within the general area, which means that Architectural design, Architecture
history, as well as societal relevance and implications of Architecture could
constitute areas of interest. Also an orientation towards architectural
theories on urban planning or land use could be in focus for the research. We
are open for artistic and/or experimental methodological research approaches.

The PhD student is expected to take part in activities and courses arranged by
ResArc, the newly launched Swedish research school in Architecture. The
thematic content of ResArc can be summarised as covering four
architecture-specific domains: the future-oriented interpretation of
architectural history; the material culture of architecture as a conjoining
practice of technological and sociological circumstances; the pro-active
investigation into the profession and thus the education of architects; and the
generative processes – from design draft to end-user – that enable the creation
of built environments.

Eligibility/Entry
Requirements

Applicants
to the PhD position must hold a master’s degree in architecture or the
equivalent. Applicants also need to demonstrate an ability to undertake PhD
research.

Basis of
Assessment

The
following personal and educational qualifications are important: an interesting
approach to architectural research and a demonstrated ability to relate to the
mentioned research topics — either by combining them or by specifying a
particular interest within the overall field; educational background and/or
professional experience within the field of architecture and architectural
theory; knowledge of urban sustainability; and teaching experience within
relevant subjects.

Good social skills and endurance are important qualities, thus a documented
ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others are of
advantage. Well documented oral and written communication skills in English and
Swedish are also of importance.
