Who is eligible to apply
for a PostDoc fellowship?
HBIGS
PhD students who are about to complete an outstanding PhD thesis are eligible to apply for an
HBIGS PostDoc fellowship. In addition to scientific excellence, completion of the PhD within 3.5 years
is an indispensable prerequisite for receiving a fellowship.

Candidates
who fulfill the requirements mentioned in the above section are invited to
submit:
• A research outline and detailed work plan (3 pages)
• A draft or outline of the manuscript to be submitted. Emphasis should be put
on the following questions:
When will the authors submit the manuscript?
Is the applicant the first or the joint first author of the manuscript?
What is the applicant´s contribution to the manuscript?
• A supporting letter by the supervisor of the PhD thesis (max. 1 page)
• A recommendation letter by the Thesis Advisory Committee (max. 1 page)
• A list of publications or manuscripts accepted for publication related to the
PhD thesis (applicant´s authorship required).

How are decisions taken?
Proposals
will be reviewed by internal and/or external reviewers (e.g., scientists from
international partner universities). The HBIGS Executive Board will rank the
proposals based on the reviews – this might include an interview with the
applicant – and will take the final decision about the fellowships.
