The position will be based in the group of Population Biology, which contains three research areas: Ethology, Veterinary Epidemiology and Bioethics. Each research area carries out research and teaching as well as common activities. The group of Population Biology mainly employs methodological research approaches, which is relevant for all groups of animals, although the emphasis for research and teaching is production animals. The research in the Department of Large Animal Sciences is communicated to the industry, authorities and the general public, and the leading researchers are involved in preparing legislation within animal welfare, particularly of production animals.

Duties
The associate professor´s duties will primarily include research (including publication/academic dissemination duties) and research-based teaching (with associated examination duties). In addition to research and research-based teaching, the post also includes a duty to share knowledge with the rest of society – including participation in public debate. Furthermore, the associate professor is expected to manage research, provide guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers as well as take part in academic assessments.
Qualifications – selection criteria
Applicants must have an academic degree within Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary medicine or related fields. Qualifications within the following scientific areas are required:
• Documented experience in animal welfare research, by ethological and/or epidemiological methods, preferably within several species of production animals.
• Research and teaching qualifications corresponding to what can be achieved through satisfactory appointment as an assistant professor in relation to the subject area
Further, qualifications and experience within the following areas is desired:
• Knowledge of animal welfare legislation in Denmark and the EU
• Knowledge of methods for evaluating animal welfare at herd level
• Willingness /ability / experience in interdisciplinary collaborations
The associate professor is required to be enterprising by nature and to possess good interpersonal skills.
If the applicant has had no previous teaching experience through employment as an assistant professor or has not achieved corresponding teaching experience, the appointment will be probationary for 1½ years
Terms of employment
The post will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
