One of the strategic intervention areas of United Nations Office on Drugs and

As part of this commitment, in 2009, UNODC launched a joint programme with the
European Commission to support the prosecution of piracy suspects.

The programme enhances criminal justice capacity among Somalia’s neighbours to
ensure that piracy trials and detentions are fair, humane and efficient and
take place within a sound rule-of-law framework.
