JOB POSTING – MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH
The Infectious Diseases Institute is engaged in working with the MoH and several districts in Uganda in strengthening health systems for improved delivery of HIV/AIDS and TB services. As an extension of this work IDI and its partners are considering using the same approach to strengthen Maternal and Child Health services in two rural districts in Western Uganda. We are therefore looking for experienced, committed, and hardworking individuals prepared to work for a fixed one year contract in health center III, Health center IV and District hospitals under the guidance of the District Health team. It is anticipated that the contracts will be from November 2011 to October 2012. We are looking for the following positions:
Midwife Supervisor/Mentor: (8)
These are experienced health professionals who will mentor and supervise frontline health workers in both technical aspects of MCH as well as in professionalism within the health workforce. They should have practical experience of normal and abnormal deliveries as well as the emergency management of obstetric emergencies. Preference will be given to individuals who have worked in a district setting
Key Responsibilities:
• The Midwife Supervisor will be responsible for providing technical support to the district health workers in integrating Antenatal Care, Family Planning and Maternal and Child Care in the districts.
• S/he will train, coach and mentor health unit staff
• Be able to provide training and mentorship to Midwives in lower health facilities in the supported districts.
• Ensure that HWs (Midwives) offer MHC services in accordance to MoH Policies and procedures.
• Participate in QA/QC for services in project-supported facilities in the districts.
• Ensure that all heath facilities make and submit required reports in time.
• Conduct technical support supervision for Health facilities in the district.
Job requirement
Essential requirements:
• Completion of Registered course in Midwifery from a recognized education institution
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in a busy clinical setting
• Experience of working in a theatre setting is an added advantage
• Knowledge and understanding of MCH related issues
• Knowledge of good nursing procedures and practices
