Simon Peter and his crew where experienced fishermen. They fished all night and caught nothing to show for their efforts. We all know how it feels like to have worked so hard with nothing to show for it. In the morning, dejectedly, when they were about to pack up and accepting their fate, Jesus appeared at the shore. “Cast your net on the right side of the boat”, he said, reluctantly they did, bearing in mind that they must have done a similar thing all through the night. When they did they caught so many fish to the extent that their net was broken. This story teaches three basic things;
1. You Usually Find Him At The End Of Your Struggle: As long as you think you can do it on your own, He will let you try. And so long as what worked for you is still working, you won’t reach out for Him for help. It is only when you run out of answers that you discover that it is not by might, nor by power, but by the spirit and favour of God.
2. He Never Takes His Eyes Off You: When the morning comes, Jesus stood at the shore but Peter and his crew could neither see him nor recognize him, but he could see them and know what their needs are. In spite of the emotional upheaval, your disappointment in those you trusted, and the futility of your own efforts, you are never beyond His care or His reach.
3. He Reaches Out To You: Only after He told Peter and his crew what to do to get result that they recognized Him. At that point their doubts dissolved, their faith was renewed and they were empowered to go out to do His work. The answers you seek and the strength you need can be found only by feeding on God’s word and fellowshipping with Him in prayers. Try Him before you pack up even if nothing else works.
