Eligibility:The Andrew W Mellon Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis to CBI students who are South African citizens with an excellent academic record and appropriate experience for full-time Master’s or doctoral study
-Applications for a scholarship for Master’s studies are invited from students
-who will enrol for their 1st year of Master’s studies in 2012
-who have, in their most recent examination, obtained an aggregate of at least 65 % for the subject(s) with which they are continuing;
-who have preferably obtained their undergraduate and/or honours degree in the minimum prescribed period.
-Applications for a scholarship for doctoral studies are invited from candidates:
-who will enrol for their doctoral studies (1st or 2nd year) in 2012
-who have obtained an aggregate of at least 65% for their Master’s studies
-who will upgrade their Master’s registration to doctoral registration,
-who have a definitive indication of the envisaged dates of upgrading and commencement of doctoral studies

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: The Andrew W Mellon Scholarships will be awarded in the fields of social sciences and humanities. Candidates wishing to pursue studies in the fine and performing arts are not eligible. The scholarship awards are for postgraduate studies leading to research-based Master’s or doctoral degrees. Support for Master’s degrees with coursework will only be considered if an official curriculum outline is provided, indicating that the proposed study requires the submission of a thesis/dissertation which weighs at least 50% of the total course content and if the research component is externally evaluated
