Sustainable Concordia (SC) is an organization that strives to create a culture of sustainability at Concordia, and thereby improve our university community by making Concordia an ecologically aware, economically responsible, and socially equitable institution. By encouraging communication within the campus community, we act as a nexus to identify, assess, and address challenges of sustainable development faced by the Concordia community, as a community.

About the CCSA
The campus sustainability assessment is at the core of Sustainable Concordia’s work. The Assessment provides an understanding of the university’s research, academics, operations, and community, identifying obstacles and opportunities for sustainable development on campus. These reports are conducted every three years, and have engaged hundreds of student researchers, guided by the knowledge and expertise of Concordia staff, faculty, and administrators.

Position Summary
The CCSA coordinators are responsible for all aspects of gathering data, analysing the results, writing the report and consulting on the design and layout of the document. The pair will recruit and coordinate volunteers and interns who will assist in the creation of the 2012 assessment. The position reports to Sustainable Concordia’s Board of Directors. The deadline to hand in the completed report is January 31st, 2012.

Sole Responsibilities
• Participate in briefing and training, including:
o Studying training materials
o Reviewing and researching sustainability literature
o Working with the Sustainability Coordinator to understand university practices, policies and past CCSA recommendations.
• Build workplan outlining goals and deadlines
• Engage in oral and written communication with relevant stakeholders (staff, faculty, administrators) for the purpose of gathering data
• Recruit and supervise interns
• Analyse data in accordance with the STARS evaluation framework
• Draft the report and hand in by Dec 15th, 2011
• Conduct monthly check-ins with supervisor and the SC BOD
• Attend the Sustainable Concordia coordinator meetings

Responsibilities Shared with Sustainable Concordia’s Co-Coordinators:
• Office Coordination and Organization
• Maintaining Board and Staff Relations
• Outreach and Community Building (Orientations, tabling events, Eat and Greets, AGM etc.)
• Participating in organizational development (Visioning, Reviews, Coordinator Meetings, Committee meetings)

Essential Qualifications
• Advanced writing and English language skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong familiarity with MS Word or other editing computer programs
• Command of referencing structures (APA/MLA)
• Ability to self-motivate and to work alone
• Ability to work in a consensus-based and non-hierarchical organization
• Ability to work with deadlines and to manage time effectively
• Familiarity with the Concordia community and basic University structure
• Excellent understanding of sustainability and its three pillars (economic, social and environmental)
• Knowledge of sustainability issues related to the university environment
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
• Good interviewing and note-taking skills
• Access to the Internet and computer is preferred
