Type: full-time internship with on-farm learning, room, board, weekly stipend
Organization: reroot organic farm
Location: Harriston, Ontario
reroot organic farm is a 70 acre diversified farm with a strong focus on market gardening, providing certified organic vegetables, fruits, herbs and cutflowers for 75 CSA shareholders, 2 weekly farmers’ markets and on-farm sales. Formerly located on rented land at Mapleton’s Organic Dairy, in 2011 reroot is making its debut on its very own land located in Wellington County, 1-hour North of Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo.
While the focus of the internship will be on market gardening, interns will also have hands-on experience beekeeping, working with our small flock of laying hens, and raising chickens and pigs for meat. Interns will benefit from a very hands-on learning environment, working full-time alongside reroot farmer Caitlin Hall, and participating in both informal and formal educational opportunities.
Interns will work a 5-day work week and also attend alternating Saturday markets. In addition to farm experiences, interns will also benefit from our strong connections with the local food community.
We’re looking for inquisitive, versatile and self-motivated individuals who are interested in a diversified farm experience. We are friendly, flexible and open to accommodating different learning desires. This internship opportunity has open-ended up as one of our interns has had to leave us due to an illness in the family. We are hoping to fill it by July 1st, 2011 at the latest. The internship will run until November 1st, 2011.
In addition to the on-farm learning, interns will have the following educational opportunities:
* Monthly CRAFT days, where interns will gather with 30+ interns from other Southern Ontario farms to have a farm tour, participate in a workshop and do some hands-on work at another organic farm
* Access to a variety of books and other resources on organic farming
* Bi-weekly educational half-days, either at the farm or on field trips.
* Basic food preservation
* Seed saving
Interns will receive room and board in our farmhouse; produce, meat and eggs from the farm and a weekly stipend of $50.
To apply, please send a resume along with a letter detailing your interest our farm to Caitlin Hall at info@reroot.ca
