The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is the nation’s leading land conservation organization. The past decade has been marked by significant growth and success for NCC.

Role Summary:
This is an 8-week internship position made available with funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program run by Human Resources and Services Development Canada.

As per the requirements of this program, the successful applicant must:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
• have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year (2010-2011) and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (2011-2012);
• be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Job Responsibilities:
• Assist in researching and sourcing text/stories for digital and print pieces;
• Assist in editing and proofreading text/stories for digital and print pieces;
• Write stories/text for digital and print pieces;
• Assist in event planning and implementation;
• Assist in photo sourcing;
• Upload images to the NCC Image Database and tag them appropriately;
• Where needed, perform interviews of staff or external sources;
• Assist the Ontario Communications Coordinator with ongoing activities as needed.

Skills/Aptitudes:
• Fluent written and spoken English is a necessity;
• Effective, engaging and compelling writing skills with excellent grammar;
• Excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills;
• Solid knowledge of 2007 Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook;
• Excellent research skills;
• Attention to details;
• Capacity to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Editing skills an asset;
• Website management an asset.

Education and Experience Required/Preferred:
The successful applicant is undertaking post-secondary education either in the field of communications and marketing with a keen interest in land conservation in Canada, or in the field of environmental studies with an interest in communicating with the general public through outreach and education.
