About the RCEN
The Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) facilitates cooperation and networking among non-profit, non-governmental environmental organisations across Canada. With over 600 member groups from rural and urban communities across the country, the RCEN is made up of Canadians from the entire spectrum of career paths and interests. Our National Office is based in Ottawa, and Affiliate Networks can be found in each province and in the Yukon.

We are an independent, non-partisan organisation. Our primary role is to support environmental NGOs by providing them with valuable networking, communication and coordination services.

About the Position
The Youth Outreach Officer will work with the RCEN Youth Caucus to develop a communications strategy over the summer. This strategy will foster the involvement of university students with an interest in environmental policy—and those who are studying in fields such as environmental science, political science, and international law—in RCEN activities.

Responsibilities:
• Establish an outreach strategy for the target audience;
• Consult members of the RCEN’s National Caucuses and Affiliate Networks to become familiar with the organization’s projects and activities;
• Identify target universities and programs, and establish contact with their sustainable development offices and other departments;
• Develop supporting outreach materials (e.g. PowerPoint presentations, brochures, videos);
• Coordinate an outreach event for university students in the Ottawa-Vanier area;
• Develop a financing strategy to implement the outreach strategy in the long term.

Candidate Profile:
• University student who will be resuming studies in September, preferably in communications or environmental studies;
• Excellent writing and verbal skills in both English and French;
• Significant experience in communications and event organization;
• Ease with establishing contacts and engaging partners;
• Demonstrated interest in environmental, youth, and policy fields;
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage time and multiple projects;
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications;
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and independently in a small, dynamic organization;
• Knowledge of Masters’ and PhD programs related to policy and the environment is an asset;
• Experience in graphic design and video editing is an asset;
• Strong affinity with the organization’s mission and activities.
