The successful candidate will work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team setting providing assessment of mental health, monitoring psychiatric symptoms, ensuring follow through of care plans and outcome evaluation. You will promote positive mental health and advocacy on behalf of individuals with a dual diagnosis, aiming to provide holistic care within the bio/psycho/social/spiritual framework and to represent Bethesda’s unique philosophy in the community.
PSYCHIATRIC NURSE
Key Job Responsibilities:
– Maintain accurate confidential records
– Provide written initial assessments
– Meet with people we support along with care/service providers and family members
– Maintain communication with community service providers and family physicians
– Maintain College of Nurses of Ontario standards of care
– Prioritize and arrange consultation with the Psychiatrist as needed
– Monitor and provide education on psychotropic medications
– Refer to appropriate community resources as needed
– Provide training on mental health problems, assessment and management in dual diagnosis
– Attend team and case review meetings
– Bilingual in French would be an asset
Interested applicants will have psychiatric nursing experience and possess current Registered Nurse registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
or possess a Masters Degree in Nursing. A strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, management, psychotropic medications and side effects is preferred.
Experience in the developmental services sector with an emphasis on dual diagnosis (developmental disability and mental health needs) is preferred. Knowledge of community service agencies including mental health and
crisis services is important to this role.
