The African Women’s Development and Communication Network is looking for a dynamic, innovative, passionate African Woman to head its Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya as the Executive Director.
The Executive Director is responsible to the Executive Board and manages the affairs of FEMNET on a day to day basis.
The person holding this position will have the following responsibilities:
• Ensure an amicable and productive working relationship between the Executive Board, the Board of Trustees and the Regional Secretariat;
• Ensure the preparation of the narrative reports and quarterly financial reports for the Executive Board and Board of Trustees;
• Ensure that the strategic directives and decisions of the Executive Board and Board of Trustees are implemented and that the Boards are provided with technical support to achieve their mandate.
• Take lead in mobilizing resources to cover the operational and programs budgets.
• Manage the human and financial resources of the organisation in line with FEMNET’s Constitution, the Personnel Policies and Financial Policies and Procedures;
• Facilitate the development of new programme/project proposals, including their budgetary aspects that are in line with FEMNET’s Strategic Plan and objectives;
• Ensure continuous resource mobilization for new programmes/projects
• Guide, supervise and motivate staff members to deliver on agreed programmes & have top performance
• Ensure the timely submission of narrative and financial reports for on-going programmes/projects;
• Ensure that all matters of the Network are carried out professionally and in line with the policies and procedures of FEMNET.
• Be the Chief spokesperson of FEMNET on matters Programmes and management related matters.
• Promote and espouse FEMNET vision, mission, feminist principles and values.
• Ensure the Secretariat maintains and regularly updates the members’ and partners’ Register.
• Ensure that all duties assigned by the General Assembly; Executive Board and Board of Trustees are attended to adequately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience for the Position
• Demonstrated interest and experience in gender and development and/or women’s human rights organising in Africa in all of its diversity—including a commitment to African women’s autonomy and choice;
• Demonstrated interest and experience in African women’s human rights organising through networking, communications and information;
• demonstrated interest and experience in African women’s human rights organising in the context of regional and international intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) as well as other relevant regional and international processes and at national level in at least three sub- regions of Africa;
• A degree in a relevant social science and a masters degree in a relevant field;
• Relevant training and/or experience in organizational development, programme/project management, resource mobilization, developing monitoring and evaluation systems, and human resource and financial management including grant making around gender and development and/or women’s human rights issues at the global, regional and sub-regional level
• Demonstrated ability to mobilize resources for gender and development and /or women’s human rights in Africa and previous experience working in a senior position in a sub-regional, regional or international organization working to advance women rights.
• Demonstrated capacity to communicate and work in both English and French.
