WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT AND SOCIAL MOBILIZATION
In the Manyara Region of Tanzania, women and children can spend an average of 4-6 hours per day crossing great distances and waiting in long lines to obtain water. These long hours keep children particularly young girls, from attending school and women have no time to pursue other activities
critical to socio-economic development. Crossing long distances to access water presents additional risks and dangers especially to women and children, including sexual assault and rape.
