Web Developer
Calgary, AB
Reporting to the Manager of Applications and Databases this position is responsible for the development, testing, documentation and support of our open source environment. The incumbent will work closely with project managers and the other IS developers in the provision of connectivity between our internal systems and external facing websites. The incumbent will also provide technical guidance and recommendations related to the open source toolsets and infrastructure used at JWN.
Requirements
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
. Installing and maintaining a Joomla development, test and production environment
. Creating and customizing Joomla CMS extensions and modules
. Creating and modifying open source web services
. Development of open source interfaces using approved open source APIs
. Supporting customized Joomla websites
. Creating technical specification documents
. Creating Project code documentation
. Participating in project development and testing as assigned
. Porting of code from development, to test, to production
. Creating Project code documentation
. Participating in the assessment and recommendation of development tools and platforms
. Backup support for the development of applications for hand held mobile devices
Qualifications
Ideal candidates for this position will possess:
. Programming knowledge using open source languages such as PHP, Java, and Perl
. Programming knowledge using Microsoft’s Visual Studio and .NET framework
. Web app creation using AJAX technologies
. Installation and support of Apache web servers
. Programming knowledge using the SQL Query language for the manipulation of database data
. Creating JDBC programs to administer and manipulate data on a MySQL database server
. Working knowledge of W3C specifications and best practices for web page development
. Technical integration of Social Media technologies in to JWN websites
. API programming for cloud computing
. Design and programming of web services for use with multiple websites in an open source environment

Professional Experience
This is an intermediate web developer’s position. An applicant for this position should have 4-6 years experience in each of the following areas:
. software and website programming development using open source languages
. experience creating web services
. experience using web and OS APIs
. experience in creating technical documentation
. successful track record in website project delivery
. integrating website social media
. experience working with cloud computing
. experience implementing W3C best practices for web development
Education and Training
An applicant for this position should have a university degree in Computer Science or an applicable diploma.
