Mulisa, former Amavubi star,launches football academy

Jimmy Mulisa who used to be a football star player in  Amavubi, introduced a soccer academy named ‘ Urumuri Football Academy ‘ as he aims to increase the next generation of soccer stars.

Located at the Wellspring Academy in Nyarutarama, the initiative makes him the first global ex- Rwanda to establish a national football academy

Run by Mulisa himself and helped by Jean de Dieu Mateso, training began this Monday at the academy where young people are educated under three age groups ; 8-11, 11-13 and 13-15.

Mulisa, who was part of the renowned Amavubi team playing Tunisia’s 2004 AFCON final tournament, retired from competitive football in 2014 after almost ten years as a professional player with difference clubs in Europe and Asia.

Before moving to R.A.E.C. Mons in Belgium in 2005, Mulisa scored 16 objectives in 40 appearances at APR for four seasons.

He has been caught between assistant coach and temporary head coach positions with local APR giants over the past five years, including last season when the military side finished second in the Azam Rwanda Premier League.
