Seven killed as Dangote truck crushed a bus

A Hawan – Kibo – Jos road crash involving a BSA214XA truck and a BSA453XJ Toyota Hiace bus claimed seven lives.

The fatal accident on Tuesday night also left severe injuries to six people.

The truck belonged to Dangote Company while the bus was from God’s Time is the Best transport company in Jos.

A witness, who preferred anonymity, told reporters that the truck’s brake had failed and that the driver had lost control, crashing into the bus.

The witness also said that when the brake failed, the truck was speeding, leading to the fatal incident.

Andrew Bala, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Plateau Command’s Public Education Officer confirmed the incident.

Mr Bala said the accident’s 13 victims were all adults, consisting of 10 males and 3 females.

He commended the FRSC staff’s timely response to the rescue operations scene, adding that the injured were moved for immediate medical attention while the bodies of those who died had been deposited in the mortuary.

“The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Salama hospital, Gidan-Waya, while the bodies of those who died were deposited at the General Hospital morgue, Kafachan, all in the state of Kaduna,” he said.

Mr Bala advised motorists, especially during this rainy season, to drive carefully and desist from speeding.

He also advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before taking the roads
