On Monday, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) confirmed that Boko Haram insurgents in Borno had kidnapped a male corps member named, Abraham Amuta.
The incident has been confirmed to newsmen in Maiduguri by the State Coordinator of Borno, Rabiu Aminu.
Mr Aminu revealed that the member of the corps was kidnapped along with a Living Faith Church pastor, simply identified as Oyeleke, in an attack on Chibok road on April 10 coordinated by the insurgents against motorists on Maiduguri.
He disclosed that the corps member with registration number: BO18b/067 ; was deployed to the Borno State Council of Arts and Culture, located in Maiduguri.
The coordinator lamented the abduction of the corps member while traveling with his pastor and other church members.
“The church claimed the corp member had been kidnapped with his pastor.
“NYSC deploys corps members to just four of the state’s 27 local government areas.
“The councils are Jere, Bayo, Biu and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).
“For any corps member to travel, he must apply through the appropriate channel and this involves a formal request from his employer, through the zonal inspector and channel to the state coordinator, where we look at the request, endorse it or approve it.
“It was unfortunate that the said corps member traveled on his own. We’ve had a sleepless night over the issue because he’s under our custody.
“We visited the Church and on Friday the Police Commissioner called us over the incident and assured us of their full support in addressing the situation,” he said.
Mr Aminu sympathized with the kidnapped corps member’s families and called on Nigerians to pray for his release from the captivity of the insurgents.
