Baba Suwe foreign medical trip gets a boost by a N10 million donation

The planned foreign medical trip of ailing renowned Yoruba actor, Babatunde Omidina also called Baba Suwe gets a boost by receiving a donation of N10 million. The donation was announced by an actor, Yomi Fabiyi. This donation was facilitated by Gbenga Bayowa Adewusi who is also a Yoruba popular filmmaker.

The donation of N10 million was reported to have been made by the founder of Love of Christ Generation Church, C & S (Iya Adura) London, Reverend, Esther Ajayi.

Reverend, Esther Ajayi’s donation came two days after Health Minister, Isaac Adewole gave the directives that Baba Suwe be admitted into the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. According to Reverend Esther Ajayi, he donation of 10 million naira and his flight ticket was to support whatever Baba Suwe had gathered in order to get medical assistance quickly. Early on Monday morning after offering the donation she spoke to Baba Suwe and prayed for him.

According to Yomi Fabiyi, Baba Suwe in a short while be flown abroad for further treatment. He added that they shall not waste any more time in facilitating the trip abroad at the instance of medical experts in LUTH working tenaciously on getting Baba Suwe a huge recovery to enable him to fly for that long haul with little or no risk.

Apart from Reverend Esther Ajayi’s donation, the vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, through the Office of the Youth Organising Secretary, APC Lagos, Aregbe Idris on Thursday also donated N1 million to support Baba Suwe’s medical expenses. Some of the early donors in the movie industry, according to Fabiyi, are Razak Abdullahi of Corporate pictures, Kazim Adeoti of Adekaz films, Jigan, Sho Mo Age Mi star, Liz Anjorin and Iyabo Ojo.

Baba Suwe was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in 2011 on the suspicion that he ingested cocaine wraps which led to the detention of the comedian for three (3) weeks by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), but no drugs were found in his possession. A Lagos High Court subsequently ordered NDLEA to pay the veteran actor N25 million for unlawfully detaining him and to also tender a public apology to him; a ruling the drugs agency appealed.

Since then the popular comedian disappeared from the mainstream eight years ago, after enjoying patronage and limelight for decades, is battling diabetic complications among other ailments.
